What are Blocks?
At the IU Indianapolis School of Education, the last four semester of the degree plan revolves around blocks. In Blocks I-III, students are pre-service teachers in intensive classes and field work to help prepare them for the Block IV, Student Teaching.

At IUI, the focus is Urban Education and ensuring that the next generation of teachers will provide a culturally responsive, engaging, and innovative classroom to help mold the next generation.

I want to be an educator because I believe it is what I was born to do. My mother is a special education teacher, so school has always been important to me. In middle and high school, I took odd jobs tutoring other people and helping my first, but my first job with a W-2 was as an ice skating instructor through the Parks and Rec department. Three days a week, I taught figure skating to ages 3-18, and I loved getting to be their teacher.; the toddler classes were my favorite.

Besides my mom, I had two teachers who really pushed me into education. My eighth grade Spanish teacher and my tenth grade Spanish teacher. My eighth grade teacher was a true and needed resource to me as a middle schooler struggling to stay afloat, and my tenth grade teacher said that if I really enjoy teaching figure skating that much, I should give education a shot. These two people started me down the path of looking into teaching middle schoolers, and now we're here.
