Hey! So Glad You're Here :)
My name is Elizabeth Terhorst, and I am a disabled person who also grew up surrounded by disabled people.
I was diagnosed with a brain and eye condition when I was 13 that affects my hearing and vision. Additionally, I suffer from severe, life threatening airborne allergies that impact my day to day life My freshmen year of college, I went into anaphylactic shock in class more times than I can count, and that's too many.
My father was also born hearing impaired (not genetic), and so I was taught sign language first as a baby. Because he was never taught to fluency, I wasn't either, but my comprehension is quite okay. The responding part is what I struggle with, but particiapting in the D/deaf and HoH community helps! My younger sibling was diagnosed with autism when they were two years old, and it's been a struggle making sure that they get the support they need from school and their peers. It's quite fortunate that my mom is a special education teacher.
Currently, I'm a junior at IU Indianapolis and am double majoring in Secondary English Education and English Literature. My love for education started when I taught figure skating (ages 3-18) through the local parks and rec department. I hope to be a principal someday, but I'm currently trying to get a job at the middle school I'm doing my Blocks at post grad as an ELA teacher. I currently work at a preschool in the STEM classrooms as an Assistant Teacher.

When I'm not doing school work or working at school, I love figure skating, traveling, hanging out with my cat and dog, and writing.
